Greg Capelli began his political career helping West Virginia Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito capture a Democrat open seat in 2000. Prior to that, Capelli received his B.A. From Marshall University.
After helping Capito win an election where she was outspent 7 to 1 and Democrat registration greatly outnumbered Republican registration, Capelli served as a Legislative Assistant in Rep. Capito’s Capitol Hill office.
In July 2001, Capelli joined the consulting world by taking a job as Vice President of Creative Direct, a Richmond, VA based Republican direct mail firm. As Vice President, Capelli worked on over 200 campaigns in 28 states – helping Alabama Governor Bob Riley win a hard-fought primary in 2002, and then Congressman Vern Buchanan and Senator Bob Corker win their difficult races in 2006.
After the 2006 cycle, Capelli co-founded Political Ink, Inc, a full-service, voter-contact direct mail firm with offices in Alexandria, VA, and Richmond, VA. While at Political Ink, Capelli helped the Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority win enough seats in 2007 to see the first Republican Speaker since Reconstruction, helped now-Congressman Tom Rooney win a hard-fought primary against two better known and better funded opponents, and worked with Montana Republicans as they recaptured control in the State Senate and retained an even split in the State House.
In April 2010, Capelli struck out on his own to form Desumo Strategies, Inc. During the 2010 election cycle, Capelli worked with the North Carolina Republican Party (Senate), NC Civitas Action (House and Senate), Montana Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (House and Senate), Montana Republican Party (House and Senate), Tennessee Republican Party (House), Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (House), and the Alabama Farmers Federation (House and Senate), as well as over 100 individual campaigns to help Republicans capture or expand majorities in their respective Legislatures.
Throughout 2009 and 2010, Capelli helped Americans for Prosperity promote free-market principles around the country by educating citizens about where their representatives stand on the issues important to them – producing materials in over 40 Congressional districts and 50 legislative districts. And in 2010, Capelli helped secure victories for Congresswoman Jaime Herrera-Buetler (WA) and Congressman Tom Rooney (FL).
In 2011, Desumo Strategies worked with the Mississippi Republican Party to help take over the State House for Republicans for the first time and expand the majority in the State Senate – winning three hotly contested, highly-targeted races. Also in 2011, Desumo Strategies was instrumental in recapturing the State Senate in Virginia, working directly with candidates as well as organizations committed to our Republican principles.
From 2012 through 2014, Capelli worked on campaigns in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, California, Arkansas, Arizona, and West Virginia. In 2014, Capelli joined with Gregory Gleaves to start Direct Edge Campaigns, LLC. Together, they produced millions of pieces of mail around the country defending Republican majorities in state legislatures, helping local and countywide candidates win hard-fought campaigns, and producing historic results – like taking over the West Virginia House and Senate, as well as helping take over the Kentucky House, thus rounding out the Southeastern United States for Republican control.
At the beginning of 2018, Capelli merged his personal consulting firm, Paragon Campaigns, with Majority Strategies, LLC and moved his family to St. Augustine, Florida, where he continued producing winning mail, but is also expanded his knowledge base by working in the digital, mobile, and TV mediums.
Now a resident of Charleston, South Carolina, Capelli has teamed with industry leaders Sean Spicer and Jimmy Keady to form point1, LLC – a rapidly growing firm that is taking on tough races with a diverse group of candidates.
In all, Capelli has worked on races at every level – from City Council to State Senate to U.S. Senate – writing, designing, and producing winning advertising.
